The way that I heard, and understand, the origin story of b-sides is that a guy named [[Jack Daniel]], not to be confused with [[Jack Daniels]], sent a presentation proposal to [[DEFCON]] and it was rejected. So, he gave the talk anyway, a day or two before DEFCON, adding what is now known as b-sides and cementing it as one of the [[hacker summer camp]] series of events.
